Frequently Asked Questions
Are swimming pools hard to maintain?
Swimming pools require regular maintenance, but they don’t have to be difficult or time-consuming. Weekly tasks include checking water chemistry, cleaning filters, skimming debris, and brushing surfaces. Fibreglass pools are typically easier to maintain due to their smooth, non-porous finish, which resists algae growth. Adding automated systems like robotic cleaners or saltwater chlorinators can also reduce manual effort. Keeping a consistent routine and addressing small issues quickly can help avoid costly repairs and keep your pool looking and performing its best year-round.
What’s the difference between saltwater and chlorine pools?
Saltwater and chlorine pools both use chlorine to sanitise the water, but they differ in how that chlorine is introduced and maintained. Saltwater pools use a salt chlorinator that converts salt into chlorine through a process called electrolysis. This provides a steady, low level of chlorine, which many find gentler on the skin and eyes. They’re often seen as easier to maintain over time, though the chlorinator cell needs occasional replacement.
Traditional chlorine pools, on the other hand, require manual dosing with liquid or tablet chlorine. While effective, they often require more frequent testing and balancing. Both systems keep the pool clean and safe when maintained properly—it’s really a matter of personal preference, budget, and how much time you want to spend on upkeep.
Can a swimming pool add value to my home?
Yes, a well-designed and well-maintained swimming pool can add significant value to your home, particularly in warmer climates or lifestyle-focused areas like coastal or regional towns. Pools are highly appealing to families, entertainers and holiday-home buyers who see them as a functional and enjoyable feature.
